I have a question for all you wonderful ladies out there. I have been researching the LapBand to see if it could be something that I want to do. This is not Gastric Bypass where they actually cut your stomach-- I don't want to do anything that drastic. It is the band that goes around the top part of your stomach and can be adjusted. Anyone have any opinions, knowledge, etc... on the issue. I have never been this overweight in my life and I want to do something about it. I have tried to lose weight different ways, but I only lose a little so it is hard to stick with it.
My OB is definitely all for this procedure especially with my high blood pressure and of course the other issues that being overweight can cause. I am so tired of being this big, but I don't know if I can do it on my own. So let me have it girls...

A friend of mine had this done a while back. It has been so far successful with her.
I think the most important part is the follow up care. Your doctors following your progress very closely and working with you on the habits that got you there in the first place.
Good luck to you. I hope whatever you decide to do works out.
Jen's Mom had it done about 1 1/2 years ago- she has lost about 60 pounds but still pukes at every meal no matter what she eats- pretty uncomfortable.
I would ask to take to people that your Dr. has operated on and get their opinons.
Good luck to you.
I have thought of looking into it myself. I've always struggled with my weight, and having Farty was the straw that is going to break MY back.
I say if it's going to make you feel better physically and mentally, go for it.
Just out of curiousity, have you found anything out about the cost?
If I hadn't had to lose so much weight so quickly I would have opted for lap-band rather than gastric. When people ask me now about surgery I promote lap-band as much as possible. The biggest bonus is that it is reversible. It also is a tool, just like any diet out there - and it's useless unless you use other tools along with it. You are doing the right thing - reaching out - asking opinions - and I'm sure in the end you will make the best decision for you.
I know nothing about the band, but wanted to wish you luck.
I have known several people who have done it. Everyone responds differently to it. There is no way to tell if you will feel it was worth it unless you try it. It can always be taken off if you are miserable...right?
I don't know about putting object in my body that don't belong their!
However, do plenty of research first and talk to those that have had it done also. You know we're behind you all the way. I've always fought the battle of overweight. And as you well know it can take it's tow on the body, as it has mine. But my frame of mind is so much better now and I'm happy with me. See ya soon

A girl I work had it done. She lost over 100 pounds. She told me it's the best thing she's ever done in her life but also the hardest. She pointed to her little frozen dinner in the microwave and said that while it allows her to eat that little meal and feel satisfied physically, it doesn't deal with the emotional hunger, the reason she got heavy in the first place. She said that it's a daily struggle and she knows that it will be for the rest of her life, but she still doesn't regret it. I'm sure there are message boards for people that have had it done. Maybe try finding one and see what their experiences have been. I wish you the best whatever you decide.
